Poco F8 series announced

Today, POCO, a sub-brand of Xiaomi, unveiled its latest product range: the F8 Series.  This includes two new devices: the Poco F8 Ultra and the Poco F8 Pro.  These aim to elevate POCO devices into the flagship territory.  Alongside the phone announcement, Bose sound technology was also highlighted, with the new F8 series featuring Sound by Bose onboard.  The goal is to redefine mobile listening.

The first device, the F8 Ultra, is their flagship offering and boasts the best specs.  The chipset is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, as expected for a flagship.  This is complemented by the VisionBoost D8 chipset, delivering advanced visuals during gaming through Smart Frame Rate, Super Resolution and Game HDR.  A liquid cooling system with a 3D Dual Channel, Dual-layer IceLoop Technology optimises cooling under load from gaming and other activities.

The device boasts a 6.9-inch 2K OLED POCO HyberRGB display. This full RGB subpixel structure uses all the Red-Green-Blue subpixels for enhanced clarity and reduced power consumption, boasting a 19.5% improvement over last year’s F7 Ultra.  The display also incorporates an M10 Luminescent material, boosting luminous efficiency by 11.4% and further reducing power usage.

The camera module features a 50MP main lens with a Light Fusion 950 sensor and optical image stabilisation.  The sensor itself is a 1/1.31-inch, a decent size for its class. The telephoto lens offers a 50MP sensor with up to 5x optical zoom, 10x sensor zoom and 20x ultra-zoom.  It also supports close-ups from just 30cm away.  Finally, the ultra-wide lens is also a 50MP sensor.

The battery is a 6500mAh unit that charges up to 100W using Hypercharge, reaching full charge in just 38 minutes from 0%.  Wireless Hypercharger is also available, transmitting power at up to 50W.

Running on Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3, the phone brings beloved features like HyperIsland, inspired by Apple’s Magic Island.  Hyper Connect facilitates seamless connectivity within the Xiaomi ecosystem, even extending to air conditioners and electric cars.  Hyper AI collaborates with Google Gemini to handle all your AI needs.

The phone is available in two colours: Denim Blue, featuring a nano-tech material finish for improved touch and feel and greater dirt and wear resistance.  Alternatively, the Black version offers a traditional glass fibre construction with a matte gloss finish.

Moving on to the second device, POCO unveiled the F8 Pro today.

This device shares many elements with the F8 Ultra but is significantly smaller with a 6.59-inch display.  It retains the same HyperRGB display technology as the Ultra.  The battery is slightly smaller and the Ultra-Wide camera lens is omitted. However, it’s the first POCO pro model to feature a telephoto camera, a 50MP unit offering 2.5x optical zoom and 5x lossless zoom for close-ups.  The main camera comprises a 50MP Light Fusion 800 sensor, equipped with OIS. Lastly there is a 8MP Ultrawide to round the cameras off.

The battery is now a 6210mAh capacity, supporting 100W Hypercharger.  This delivers a 0% to 100% charge in just 37 minutes.  The Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset provides ample power, making it suitable for high-intensity gaming and demanding tasks.  LiquidCool Technology, a triple-layer IceLoop system, enhances thermal capacity by 40% compared to the F7 Pro.

Ultra achieves an AnTuTu score exceeding 3,944,934.¹ To further enhance gaming

rates. In gaming, the average frame rate reflects overall speed, but brief drops in

performance can disrupt the gaming experience. This is where the 1% low frame rate

tracking the worst-case moments of lag. In a 2-hour FPS gaming test running at 120

FPS, POCO F8 Ultra demonstrated superior stability with an average frame rate of

LiquidCool Technology further keeps extended gaming stable with its 3D dual-channel,

dual-layer IceLoop system. The first layer features a larger convex surface aligned with

the mainboard, while the second layer has a smaller convex surface dedicated to the

adopts a full RGB subpixel structure where red-green-blue subpixels are fully used.

With 19.5% lower power consumption than the previous POCO F7 Ultra display,⁷ it
