OnePlus tease more details about upcoming products on its 12th Anniversary

Garry Clark

The tap on the news from OnePlus about their upcoming product has just been tweaked open a little bit more today as they have released a little bit more information about the upcoming OnePlus 15R, Pad Go 2 and Watch Lite.

So let’s take a little bit of time to go through each of these bits of new information more closely:

First up the OnePlus 15R.

We now have a bit more information on the cameras that will feature on this phone. It will feature the same Detailmax engine that is to be found on the recently announced OnePlus 15, which will include the three advanced technologies that were prominently featured on the previous device: Ultra Clear Mode, Clear Burst and the Clear Night Engine. These will all contribute to level up the photographic experience on the OnePlus 15R.

On the performance front, the OnePlus 15R will be the first device available globally to feature the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 mobile platform,  along with a new G2 Wi-Fi chip and the Touch response chip, meaning that like the OnePlus 15, the 15R will feature a tri-chip setup to optimise the performance of the 15R in gaming and other performance-focused metrics.

The next tidbit released is what the screen will be. Unfortunately, the size has not been confirmed yet, but we do know that the phone will have a 165Hz refresh rate, 1.5K AMOLED panel, which will have a PPI of 450 and the ability to vary brightness from 1800 down to nits of brightness by default and 1 nit if the Reduce White Point setting has been activated.

That covers all we have had teased for the OnePlus 15R.

Now onto the OnePlus Pad Go 2.

We have been given a bit more information about the display technology being used in the Pad Go 2. The screen will be a 12.1” panel with a 2.8K resolution at 284 PPI with a max brightness of 900 nits. The panel will reach 98% DCI-P3 colour coverage and support Dolby Vision, alongside having a TÜV Rheinland Smart Care 4.0 certification.

This tablet will also support the latest Open Canvas Software, which will make multi-window multitasking easy and fluid, ideal for when working on the go, as the multitasking gestures are intuitive and make for a great platform to get stuff done.

Now it is time for the OnePlus Watch Lite.

The Watch Lite will be available in a Phantom Black stainless steel finish, which promises to look really special and scratch-resistant. The finish will be matte to avoid the build-up of fingerprints, which is great to see on a watch, and it should be able to stand up pretty well to daily wear and tear. In terms of sizing, we now know that the watch will weigh in at a light 35g and be 8.9mm thick, making it one of the thinnest and lightest stainless steel watches in the category.

With a 1.46’ OLED panel that is protected by impact-resistant glass, it should provide a clean window into the tracking of health metrics regardless of the brightness of your environment due to the peak brightness of 3000 nits in sports mode and 600 typical brightness in normal use. The Watch Lite will be capable of tracking over 100 sports and can also calculate key metrics like VO2 Max and lactate threshold after moderate to high-intensity sessions. In terms of tracking, this comes thanks to the inclusion of  dual-band GPS to give accurate results whatever the environment you are in.

Lastly, the watch will work across OS platforms, so it can be used with either Android and iOS devices or Android devices, or if you really want to, you could use both, which eliminates the need to constantly remove and repair your devices when you carry more than one phone. This will work in the following scenarios: iPhone - Android or Android and Android, as some who normally dailies two phones this will be very useful to me. You will get synchronised notifications and call alerts from both devices, although it will be interesting to see how well this works in reality.

Last but not least, OnePlus also wants to celebrate its 12th anniversary. The founder of OnePlus, Pete Lau, has penned a letter which can be viewed on the OnePlus Community, and they have also launched a new OnePlus Run 2.0 game on the OnePlus Community page The game features Una, the beloved mascot. Una will be featured in a new version, a Christmas edition, where you will be able to see the mascot in either a Kurta Pyjama as Diwali Una or Christmas Celebration Una, which will feature a Scottish-themed tartan to bring some festive magic to the occasion.
