MWC Day 2

Good morning Average Dad fans, welcome to a Sunday at MWC 26. We now have the full team together in Barcelona and we are edging to be heading out to see the sights of the city and then have Honor’s media Event around lunch time. This will be followed on by Showstoppers which is one of my favourites events of MWC as it is an opportunity for us to see the latest tech from a wide variety of vendors all whiles supping down some Spanish beer and enjoying the best of Spanish tapas!

Off the the back of the Xioami event the Mike and James have been feverishly working away to ensure that the store is showing the Xiaomi devices and also filling your orders off the latest Xiaomi goodness.

Having just been out doing a little bit of sightseeing and camera sampling on a variety of phones for your pleasure. A quick pit stop is required to get some more website work and then we will make our way to the Honor Media Event next to the fabulous Mirador Barcelona viewpoint where MWC used to be held up until the 2013.

13:00 pm Honor Media event

Let's get this started then. After some inspirational videos showing the benefits of Honors AI integration (shout out to Mark from the members chat) we can get stuck into the nitty gritty of the event.

First up we are talking about Augmented Human intelligence this is a core part of the Honor’s Alpha Plan which was launched last year and was a core part of the developed and design of the Robot Phone. There is some hideous virtual clapping going on every now and again which is something that keeps getting a chuckle from the crowd. There are going to be three waves of Alpha Plan which is formed by Alpha Phone, Alpha Store and Alpha Lab. After a lot of AI talk we now have a representative from Google on stage to talk a bit more about AI! A Lot of talk about Gemini and Circle to Search being present on Honor’s devices it looks like the Honor Google relationship is growing into a more beautiful thing than it was before. 

We now have someone from Qualcomm to talk about a bit more AI but this time from the chip set aspect. We are now 23 minutes in and we have had a mention of the Honor Magic V6 and also the Honor Robot Phone! 

Next we are going to delve into the depths of Honor AiMAGE and how AI is being implemented into the image processing on Honor devices. It looks like Honor are going to be partnering with Cinematography giant ARRI. This is quite exciting new as it should allow for a significant improvement in what was a least a very good base level of video capture. They will be implementing Strategic Technical Collaboration going forward.

Honor Magic V6 time

Coming in a variety of Colours including Velvet Red, Gold ,White or Black. For the battery life the Honor Magic V6 will last longer unfolded than the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the iPad Air. 

8.75mm thin which is thinner than the previous Honor Magic V5 the battery size is 6660mAh with 25% silicone content.

To showcase the reliability of the hinge they have used a Honor Magic V6 to suspend a guy called Joe Weller weighing 80kg on a Zipline. The IP rating has been bumped up to IP68 on a foldable which is awesome. The outer screen is protected by a specially formulated glass that was also used on the Honor Magic 8 Series and having seen the punishment they can take i am impressed. 

While comprehensive camera specifications were not detailed, a major upgrade was confirmed for the telephoto lens, which now boasts a 64 Megapixel sensor. This high-resolution capture is supported by a sophisticated computational photography suite, leveraging Multisensory Fusion computing and the proprietary AiMAGE processing engine to deliver exceptional image quality in varied conditions.

Underpinning the entire device experience is cutting-edge performance hardware: the device is powered by the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 mobile platform, coupled with the high-performance Adrenaline 840 GPU, promising fluid multitasking, rapid processing, and console-quality mobile gaming.

 

Ecosystem and Connectivity

A significant focus has been placed on deeper integration and cross-platform compatibility, particularly with the Apple ecosystem. The V6 device includes enhanced Gemini integration, allowing for more powerful AI-driven assistance and services.

Crucially, the phone is designed to work seamlessly with Apple products through several key features:

• Mac Screen Extension: Allows the foldable screen to act as a secondary display for a Mac.
• Mac Connected Files and iCloud Integration: Enables direct access to and collaborative iWork Editing on files stored in iCloud.
• Honor Onetap: Facilitates quick and easy file sharing with a Mac.
• Notification Sharing: Provides the ability to view and manage notifications from an iPhone and Apple Watch directly on the device.

There was also the announcement of the New Honor MagicBook Pro 14 2026 but as it is laptop I didnt take a massive amount of notice. It does look pretty damn nice and also include a touchscreen which is nice. 

Now what we have all been awaiting for the Honor Robot phone!

This was accompanied by a dance routine which was pretty cool with the inclusion of an actual freaking Dancing Robot on stage!!!

Obviously this was going to include a little bit more about AI but after that visual feast from a dancing robot onstage I will let it slide. Quick video reel of the Honor Robot Phone in the real world with it poking. Out of someone's pocket being used for taking selfies and helping a woman choose an outfit amongst many other ideas. Now a little bit of insight into how they designed the robot aspect of the Honor Robot phone Honor developed the micro motor using their knowledge of high performance tooling and Enhanced simulation accuracy The camera arm has 4 ranges of free movement thanks to these Micro motors

The exceptional field of movement allows human like gestures to be adopted by the actual camera module tanks to multiple different AI models. 

Honor are classifying the Honor Robot Phone as a new phone species.

The camera on the Robot phone has a 200mp Camera with 3 axis Gimbal Stabilization system this allows for various enhanced filming methods that were previously only available on dedicated gimbal systems. Things like Spin Shot and object tracking will now be possible on the Honor Robot Phone

The phone will be coming second half of this year. No word on the pricing yet though

Of course the event finished with a collection of YouTubers commenting on the Robot phone. With that we are now finished with the Honor Event.

16:00 Showstoppers

With empty stomach and a thirst to quench we have made our way to Showstoppers which I was particularly looking forward as this has been one of my highlights on previous trips to MWC. We arerived a bit early so the boys took the oppurtunity to get some filming done as the scenery was pretty epic. The venue was glorious as it was located at the Palacio Real de Pedralbes which has been at some time the residence of the Spanish Royal family. However sadly the event which would normally showcase the upcoming and latest trends for the mobile tech market was a bit of a damp squib. The only real point of interest here was Anker who has their Soundcore range of headphones and speakers on display alongside some teeny tiny Anker GAN chargers. needless to say we didn't stay long before we left moving onto to a quick coffee before heading back to base for the evening's entertainment... an evening with Honor.

An Evening with Honor.

What do journos and bloggers do after the events for the day have finished? Some will return to their accommodations and feverishly bash away at keyboards to get content published immediately. While some will embrace the opportunity to do some networking with colleagues and representatives from manufacturers.

We took option number two and were fortunate to spend the evening in the company of Honor and a lot of like minded tech enthusiasts.  whilst at the "after party" we were treated to card tricks and magic plus good beer and good food. We have taken the time too meet with fellow youtubers and perhaps more importantly meet the relevant PR teams for Honor. 

An enjoyable evening was had by all and now to get well rested for tomorrow when we descend upon the MWC venue proper.
