Jolla announce new phone with Sailfish OS
We all know that there are two major Smartphone OS platforms, but are there any others that exist? Well, those of you who are regular readers or viewers of the YouTube channels will know that there is one more from Huawei in the form of Harmony OS (or EMUI, which predates this platform), but you may not know that there is a fourth platform that exists in the form of Sailfish OS.
Sailfish OS is a privacy-based OS that is built on top of the same Linux base that forms Android OS in its purest form. As a result, the platform will still allow the use of all your Android Apps via Jolla's App Support technology.
The software has previously been available on very select devices as ports that would have overwritten your phone's OS and therefore kept it very much in the domain of developers and OS tweakers. The Sailfish platform was not something that most users would have even come across, and the biggest hurdle was that there was no dedicated phone for the software.
Well, that all ends now, as Jolla, one of the main players on Sailfish OS, have now introduced their newest phone, the Jolla Phone. This device is destined for European countries only to begin with, launching in the UK, Norway, and Switzerland. The phone will be built in small batches at first, and the first batch of 2000 units has sold out already. The good news is that another batch of 2000 units has just been opened up for pre-order.
The device will cost €549 and will be available to pre-orde for €99 deposit, which is deducted from the final price.
